Pride March 2012

Sunday, June 24, 2012

NYC Pride has published the line up areas and times for the March. The Episcopal Church is in section 10 (there are 12 sections). Our meeting place is East 38th Street between Madison and Park Avenues. You should be at the meeting place and ready to march by 1:30pm at the latest. Our group leaders will be there by noon with the Episcopal Church banner. The float will be in a different location either on West 36th or West 37th Street between 6th and 5th. We will not know until the day of the March. Only those who NEED to ride should go to the float. ALL others should proceed to East 38th Street. I can be reached on the day of the March at 646-456-8705. (Text message is best since it is not always easy to hear the phone due to the noise levels).

For further information e-mail lgbtconcerns@dioceseny.org which will be monitored until Saturday evening. Bring sun-block and water and wear confortable shoes.

The Diocesan Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns is a committee of the Social Concerns Commission of the diocese.

This is its Mission Statement

The Diocesan Committee on LGBT Concerns promotes the visibility, equality and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning Episcopalians and their families in the diocese of New York

The Committee:

  • Partners with existing ministries that serve LGBTQ persons, such as Integrity New York, CFLAG (Clergy Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), and the Interfaith Task Force for LGBTQ Youth
  • Promotes social witness for the experiences and needs of LGBTQ Episcopalians in the diocese
  • Identifies welcoming parishes within the diocese and works to engage additional parishes in the welcoming process
  • Advocates for policies that promote acceptance and equality for LGBTQ persons in the diocese, the larger church, and society at large
